Petronele Gerlikiene
Tapestry "A Red Tree". 1977

Wool, embroidery, applique. 180x150 cm

"I'm gonna sew the Paradise tree, which blossoms and bears fruit at the same time. It's going to be a red tree like no one has ever seen before, a lion and lioness resting their heads against its trunk. It's not easy to embroider lions with such fine thread, but I do not have the right kind of thread at the moment. Maybe those two lions are not such a good idea, but I'm gonna leave the lion and instead of the lioness, after all that work, I'm gonna embroider birds."
